My Illustration 3 students are working on character design turnaround sheets this week, and I worked up DedCat as an example for them. Illustrators use the 3/4 view more than anything in their illustration work, but knowing how to keep your characters consistent and turn them around in space is crucial for many areas of illustration, including anything in sequential (comics, children’s books), animation, and many aspects of licensing.

Some comics characters “cheat” the turn-around for better readability. I recommend trying the accurately measured version first before attempting the cheats. This will help you notice what could benefit from a cheat.
Snoopy is an example from Charles Shulz’s Peanuts.

This is the cheery DedCat birthday illustration I made for a friend.

Happy drawing!
