It was my absolute honor to be invited to Texas to talk about writing, illustrating, and share “Swim, Jim!” and “Worm and Caterpillar are Friends” with the wonderful Corsicana young readers. My first visit was the Corsicana Writer & Artist Residency and Storefront Bookstore. We talked about writing and illustrating as a career and ate delicious cookies by Grave Creek.

The next day, I visited Corsicana High School art students and we talked about illustration, working with a production team on big projects like books, and watercolor and digital painting.

Later that morning, I met with two adorable elementary art school classes. We read “Swim, Jim!” and drew a character from simple shapes. The kids decided I was a character, too!

That night, the Corsicana Library threw a big book party, with a live reading, cookies, donuts, and a fun signing.

Thank you, Corsicana!!! Your vibrant and welcoming community is something to be so very proud of. Special thanks to Marianne the librarian for the invitation, coordination, and hospitality I’m still glowing from. I will never forget this trip.
