The butterfly is out of the chrysalis! This morning at the American Library Association Youth Media Awards ), “Worm and Caterpillar are Friends” was named a GEISEL HONOR BOOK…. an honor “given annually to the most distinguished American books for beginning readers.”

Thank you to my SimonKIDS Simon Spotlight team, Siobhan Ciminera, Lisa Rao, and Laura Roode, as well as my agent, Timothy Andrew Travaglini, and the American Library Association, ALSC, and my “Bitsy Bat, School Star” editor Catherine Laudone who knew where this story would thrive. Special thanks to the Geisel Award committee for this great honor. And thank you for calling back when I didn’t answer the first call. 🙂

The Geisel Award is among the most significant awards for children’s books. So many brilliant and beautiful early readers came out in 2023; I’m amazed and humbled to think mine was selected as one of the top 3 books. Congratulations to fellow honorary recipient “Henry Like Always” written by Jenn Bailey, illustrated by Mika Song, and the winner, “Fox Has a Problem” by Corey R. Tabor.
