So far almost everyone has encouraged me to revisit this illustration. Some of you have even said the original (minus the scary baby feet) was just fine as it was.
Here’s the new version. I changed the lattice crust into a solid sheet, hoping to give it more of a blanket feel. I don’t want it to look too bed-like, as it would take away from the pie concept, but I do want the baby to appear to be using the pie as a bed.
I think it’s a lost cause to separate the idea of edible baby from this illustration, however. The child is topped off with whipcream and a cherry, after all.
Better?

Prefer lattice crust, like white cream and cherry. Feet were truly scary. š
Feel like it needs literal “Sweetie Pie” for pie illio instead of “Sweet Dreams”. Use that one for candy, sugar plums… something sweet.
Love doily. Would actually like to see more baby — kind of lost in size of pie.
My 2 cents.

Good advice!!!! I did some work on the lattice crust earlier, so maybe it ends up being salvaged after all. The thing I liked about it was that it felt “quilty”. I never imagined this would be so tricky! Thanks again for the comments/help!

I think it works great! I like it much better than the first one.
